2014 Conference Keynotes Announced

Santa Rosa, California, Friday, March 21, 2014 - Sustainable Enterprise Conference announced today the conference keynotes for the 9th annual Sustainable Enterprise Conference. The conference will be held at Sonoma Mountain Village in Rohnert Park, CA on April 30, 2014.

The 9th Annual Sustainable Enterprise Conference is about meeting inspiring people and finding about how North Bay businesses, government agencies and our communities are working together to build a resilient economy, secure a local food system, and mitigate global climate events. Our keynotes will address the role of policy in sustainability, explore how sustainability can go mainstream, and highlight opportunities in locally generated renewable energy.

Gil Philip Friend - Chief Sustainability Officer City of Palo Alto, CA

Gil Friend was founder and CEO of Natural Logic Inc, which helps companies design, implement and measure profitable sustainability strategies. He is widely considered one of the founders of the sustainability movement, and was named to the Sustainability Hall of Fame acknowledging “those people that have contributed the most to the emerging field of sustainability.”

A systems ecologist and business strategist with more than 40 years experience in business, communications, and environmental innovation, Friend combines broad business experience with unique content experience spanning strategy, systems ecology, economic development, management cybernetics, and public policy.

Gil is the author of ‘The Truth about Green business” which explains how to innovate to boost operating margins by fiercely eliminating waste—be it energy, water, materials or opportunity. 

Sheryl O’Loughlin - Former CEO Clif Bar and Co-founder Plum, Inc

Sheryl also served as Executive Director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Stanford Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. She is also the Board member various for profit and non-profit organizations.

In 2007, Sheryl co-founded Plum, Inc. a healthy food company nourishing kids from the high chair to the lunch box. As CEO from 2007-2011, Sheryl led Plum to become an industry leader and game-changing company with national distribution. After growing to about $100MM in revenue in only four years Plum was sold in May 2013 to the Campbell Soup Company.

Sheryl O’Loughlin is currently on the faculty of the School of Business and Economics at Sonoma State University where she teaches courses in Entrepreneurship.

Geof Syphers - Chief Executive Officer, Sonoma Clean Power

Geof Syphers is responsible for the vision, strategy, and leadership of Sonoma Clean Power. With nearly two decades of experience developing and managing renewable energy and energy efficiency programs, he has been a consultant to utilities, public agencies and private companies. 

A licensed mechanical engineer and a pioneer in the green building field, Geof Syphers managed utility energy efficiency programs and consulted on over $1 billion in completed California developments. 

He was formerly Chief Sustainability Officer for Codding Enterprises. His projects have earned top awards, including the Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award, LEED Platinum, and the first One Planet Communities certification in the United States.
