Transition: Resilience and Hope in Extraordinary Times

Resilience thinking means decentralizing our basic systems - food, energy, and water. It’s backup against the inevitable failure of centralized, too-big-NOT-to-fail systems. At this point in history it is imperative to overcome the nemesis of resilience - the hyper-individualism of America’s consumer culture - and rebuild a strong social fabric. The goal of “Transition U.S.” is to connect and support neighborhoods, towns, and cities to become more sustainable and self-reliant – together. Let’s grow flourishing, locally-scaled, green economies and step into a future that nourishes both people and planet.

You can dig in this May and join the Transition Home and Garden Challenge: Plant a garden, employ energy efficiency measures in your home, conserve water or create/join a community building activity.  Register your action and see the many other actions across the country.

Join Transition US in creating a vision of a United States where every community engages its collective creativity and genius to unleash an extraordinary and historic transition to a future beyond fossil fuels: a thriving future that is more vibrant, connected and resilient; one that is ultimately preferable to the present.

Today there are thousands of Transition Town initiatives in 34 countries around the world. In the U.S. there are 135 in 34 states, with 300 others forming! All started by ordinary citizens stepping up to make their communities truly prosper, now.

Cheerful disclaimer!

Transition is a social experiment on a massive scale. We truly don't know if this will work. What we are convinced of is this:

  • If we wait for governments, it'll be too little, too late
  • If we act as individuals, it will be too little
  • but - If we act as communities, it might just be enough, just in time

More about Transition US:  Founded in 2009, Transition US is the national hub of the Transition network. Its our mission to inspire, encourage, support, network and train individuals and their communities as they adopt, adapt and implement the Transition model and approach to community empowerment and action.

Mission Statement

As the membership organization for business, we promote our community's economic vitality and quality of life through leadership development, advocacy, facilitation and education.

The Napa Chamber of Commerce promotes the local economy by encouraging Napa Chamber of Commerce members and Napa residents to shop locally. All referrals given out by the Napa Chamber of Commerce are members. The Chamber of Commerce website has detailed information about local businesses in the community. The Napa Chamber also provides many educational opportunities throughout the year such as Good Morning Napa Seminars, Napa County Economic Outlook and a Labor Law Workshop. To showcase local businesses, the Chamber also sponsors the annual Napa Valley Business Expo.

The Napa Chamber of Commerce promotes the local community in a variety of ways. We provide lists of community events and local non-profits as well as visitor, relocation and wedding information about the Napa Valley. This information is available in Napa Valley packages. The Napa Chamber also holds an annual benefit golf tournament each year, which helps support several local non-profit community organizations. The Chamber’s Annual Dinner promotes local residents with awards that are presented to the Citizen of the Year, Healthcare Professional of the Year and Public Safety Employees, among others.
The Napa Chamber of Commerce promotes networking by sponsoring monthly After Business Hours Mixers at local businesses. The mixers are an excellent opportunity to meet other Chamber members and learn about their businesses. Other special events such as the Napa Valley Business Expo, the Economic Outlook and our Good Morning Napa's also provide great opportunities for members to network with other business professionals.
The Napa Chamber of Commerce represents business concerns to local, regional, state and federal entities. While you keep your business running, the Chamber watches your back on issues like Workers’ Comp, Healthcare, and job killer anti-business bills. Action Alerts and other legislative information is available on the Chamber’s website and is sent to members via e-mail throughout the year.

The Napa Chamber of Commerce influences public policy on behalf of business. The Chamber also identifies, encourages and endorses business-friendly candidates in local, county, state and federal elections. A new program that is being unveiled is a Candidate Workshop, designed to help educate potential leaders on what it takes to run a campaign and what is expected of elected officials

Harmony Festival Inc.

Social Media

For 32 years, Harmony has been a leading-edge lifestyle festival that celebrates the latest trends in health, music, arts, ecology, and spirituality.

Created and seasoned in the trend-setting North Bay Area, Harmony is the original festival to appeal to the green lifestyle market. Over the past 5 years Harmony expanded into a major music festival and in 2009-10, Harmony added the Eco Rally Action Sports Skate Zone to attract a younger demographic.

In 2008, Harmony Festival celebrated its landmark 30th Anniversary with Damian Marley as the headliner.

In 2009, Harmony Festival again invested capital in the expansion of brand recognition and in pursuit of new demographics. Through the introduction of the 1st Annual Eco Rally Skateboard Competition, Harmony Festival received national and international attention and achieved new record numbers for ticket sales and revenues. In 2010, Harmony Festival, Inc. moved its corporate headquarters to Sonoma Mountain Village, North America’s first and only the fourth in the world to receive the prestigious One Planet Communities honor.

The 2010 Festival reached record-breaking attendance estimated at 35,000 people over the weekend. Press outreach, both print and online, hit the mark with featured stories appearing in LA Times, Boston Globe and thousands of impressions on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Slightly Stoopid and Ms. Lauryn Hill rocked the main field. Eco Rally Skateboard Competition attracted the 7-16 year old demographic. This pro/am contest featured MTV, Village Voice and Rolling Stone youth oriented music. The second year of Harmony Festival’s financially successful Harmony Tea House featured freshly made baked goods, teas, live jazz and sacred music in an intimate setting.
