Robert Girling earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University and has taught and consulted in over 20 countries. His extensive academic career includes positions at the Federal University of Bahia and the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, the University of the West Indies, and American University in Washington, D.C.

Professor Girling is the author of numerous books and articles, including Lifescapes: A Tapestry of Journeys (2024), Lifescapes 2: Living My Purpose (2024), The Good Company: Hospitality, Tourism and Wine (2016), The Good Company (2012), Multinational Institutions and the Third World (1985), Education, Management, and Participation (1992), A Escola Participativa (11th ed., 2006).
