Mark Westwind, MPA

Mark Westwind is a passionate community organizer. He is currently an advisor for Sustainable Contra Costa and President of Earth Team, an East Bay youth organization. Over the last 40 years, he founded/co-founded over a dozen community organizations including a network of recycling centers, numerous community gardens, several farmers markets, an urban gleaning program and an environmental education center. He was also the founder of the California Council for Community Gardening and producer of several statewide conferences. He is the co-founder of The Innovation Project, a very successful youth entrepreneurship program for high school students and the producer of the annual Digital Safari Innovation Fair.  

In the business sector, Westwind Associates specializes in business consulting for start-ups and developing data management systems on the Salesforce platform. Mark was a Business Advisor for the Contra Costa Small Business Development Center, the founding Director of the Contra Costa Software Business Incubator, founding Associate Director of John F. Kennedy University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Resident Mentor for JFK University’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership. He currently teaches executive entrepreneurship for JFK University’s MBA Program. 

In his work as a business analyst, Mark has interviewed executives with over 130 Silicon Valley venture-backed technology companies. He is the co-author with the late Dr. Tapan Munroe (former Chief Economist for PG&E) of "What Makes Silicon Valley Tick?", a highly praised analysis of the Silicon Valley's innovation ecosystem. 

Internationally, Mark served as the US Associate for Canton Venture Capital, a Chinese VC firm, and worked with business incubators and tech firms in Wuhan and Guangzhou, China. He also served as a mentor for the World's Best Technology Showcase. 

Mark holds a Master of Public Administration from Cal. State University East Bay, a BA in Environmental Studies from UC Berkeley and a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from John F. Kennedy University. He is also a Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Catalyst and One Planet Living Integrator.
